Response to prototype feedback:
- How big do you plan to make your dream fragments?
- I think it would be ceiling high, 3 x 3 meters big
- What are the materials that you’ll use for the fragments that will hold the LEDs? How will you connect and power the LEDs when they’re hanging inside the fragments?
- The fragments will be wood-structured and covered with half-transparent tracing paper, the LED will be tied to the structure. Since the fragment is hung by rods, the LED wires can also be tangled with the hanging rod
- How do you want your audience to feel after experiencing this work (aya)
- I would like the audience to experience the ambiance under the fragments, I won’t expect they to understand the meaning, so I want them to bring their first impression and check the artistic statement and reflect
- Is it our dreams that are chaotic, or, rather, the way that they don’t fit into the logic of waking life? Dream logic is its own mystery, but personally, I hesitate to label it as chaotic (aya)
- Agreed. I hate it when I say chaotic but I just can’t find a better substitution, maybe, randomness? Like you said, it does not fit into the waking logic so that’s why big and small fragments are randomly aligned. So I will say “Chaotic” is a slip of the tongue
- Is there an element of sound attached to the installation? Will you be playing music, will it change based on how people interact with your installation?
- Maybe adding some other media, for example, relaxing music and breathing sfx. When people are detected, the breathing could accelerate according to the time a person stands in it.
- Could you put a sleeping hat/cap for people to wear when they approach your work (just an idea) or some other dream-related symbols or signs that would suggest dreaming/sleeping? Could be sound/music
- Very smart! Would think more about this
- How does the piece make the concept of sleep salient?
- Maybe adding some other media, for example, relaxing music and breathing sfx
- Safety-wise if the pieces are moving it may be important to consider how different kinds of people can safely move through the space as the pieces are in motion
- The project is meant to be a single-person experience
Materials:
Last week I bought a winch from Amazon and it turned out too big and heavy and my current step motor cannot rotate it properly. Hence, I bought a new motor and it just arrived. After getting the specs, I can start 3d modeling and making my own winch and test it out. Also, I need to start looking for wood sticks, tracing paper, pulleys, and fishing rods.
